Jennifer Mack

ART TEACHER & 4TH GRADE ELA

Jennifer Mack grew up in Michigan and earned her BA in psychology at Northern Michigan University before moving to southern California, a plan she’d announced to her mother at the age of eight. Jennifer settled in Los Angeles, where she completed Montessori training and taught Language Arts in grades 3-8 at Santa Monica Montessori School. A unique home-schooling opportunity then drew her to Ojai, where she worked for several years while pursuing a Masters’ degree in counseling psychology.

Jennifer enjoyed serving both elementary and high school students as a counselor, but missed the energy of the classroom. Eventually, she returned to Santa Monica where she guest-taught extensively at Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District, while creating and leading art education for kids in the community, from classes to after-school programs to camps.

Jennifer’s teaching philosophy encourages students to embrace the learning process with a sense of exploration and openness. She firmly believes that trying  new strategies and taking different perspectives leads to limitless possibilities.  A sunlit, music-filled room of students engaged in a creative project is her happy place. In addition to her passion for teaching, Jennifer aspires to publish picture books for children.

Outside of the classroom, Jennifer loves spending time with her two kids and enjoys  long meandering walks and impromptu family dance parties in her living room.
